Visit to Delhi Metro Railway Corporation Museum

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a visit to the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) Museum, Patel Chowk, Delhi on 10th December, 2014. 30 students of 2nd and 3rd Year Civil Engineering branch visited the museum along with Mr. Amit Kumar Sharma and Mr. Sarvagya Tripathi, faculty from Department of Civil Engineering. The purpose of the visit was to make students familiar with DMRC’s working methodology, and various phases of construction and design aspects of different structures.

 

This museum was opened to the public in December 2002. The museum exhibits and showcases the processes involved, management style and work culture of the DMRC to the visitors. The construction technologies , Automatic Train Control and Fare Collection system, and other round-the-clock activities of various departments through various exciting displays and models are the main features of the museum.

 

The students reached museum office and were welcomed by Mr. N.D. Khanna (Curator of Museum).The students were then accompanied to the museum hall by Mr. Vikash Chatterjee (Sub Engineer), where they were provided detailed information about broad gauge, narrow gauge, special 3.2 m wide light weighted rolling stock, Muck removal, Gasket etc. Students were exposed to various earthquake and liquefactions design parameter used in design of foundation of metro bridges. Students learned the concepts of launching girders, operation of double shield tunnel boring machine, and other tunneling process.

 

The students were also introduced to the innovative special type of cable stayed bridge “Extradosed Bridge”, which was constructed between Pragati Maidan and Indraprastha metro stations.

 

The visit was educative and interactive. Students took keen interest and discussed their queries and were benefited and enriched with the knowledge of modern construction technologies.
